Joy Theda Björk
is a self-taught American Artist who endeavours to capture on canvas the simplicity, dignity, purity and colors of our world. Although born in the State of New Jersey, she began travelling in Europe in 1993, and after marrying Anders, has lived in Sweden since 1996.
 
Her favorite subjects are:
1) depicting portraits of nurturing, whether it be humans or animals, birds, etc.
2) dance, as she has also taught dance workshops, and loves the freedom of this expression herself
3) floral and other still life compositions.
 
After painting with oils for twenty-two years, Joy changed to watercolor in 1994, and loves both the versatility and portability of the medium. For a change of style and effect she also works in acrylics, and pastels.
 
Joy has sold approximately 65 paintings over the past eleven years, which includes six commissioned house portraits.
Her work has been sold in two museum gift shops in Stockholm, and she has had seven one-woman shows in Sweden, the most recent in June of 2009. She has also been “Artist In Residence” for the Queen Elizabeth II cruise ship, based in England - 2007 and 2008, and will be teaching on the Queen Victoria in August, 2010.
